The retention Sturgeon season is half way done with  sturgeon being counted for. The Fishers Catch Outfitters crew  hit the mighty Columbia River for another day of Columbia River white sturgeon action. We were not disappointed with the outcome. We managed to get a nice 44.5 in sturgeon in the Les Schwab boat within the first hour of fishing. It has been a slow but but the fish that seem to be biting are the keepers. With the quick end of sturgeon for the day we set out to see if we could jig up a few walleye, we picked up a few. With a day off what do we do here at Fishers Catch Outfitters? Well we start with taking down the Christmas Lights and cleaning the house, what we didn't get out to fish? Oh, yes we did after the chores are done we hit the water for our first night walleye run. It was a great night on the mighty Columbia River chasing night eyes. We got in about 6 hours of fishing and landed 10 great fish ranging from 3.7 pounds to 10.9 pounds. With the winter plugging along and the John Day pool bellow McNary dam producing slowly, the retention sturgeon season continues. Another great day on the mighty Columbia River, with much of the same as yesterday. The Fishers Catch Outfitters crew got back and focused on the winter sturgeon retention season. It has been an up and down season for the John Day pool and the bite has been slow and in many cases the only bite we get are sturgeon within the 43"-54" retention slot. Today was not any different than the past few days and with only a couple bites coming we managed to get a keeper and a river monster. The Fishers Catch Outfitters crew took a day off and went fishing. We headed up to Rufus Woods in search of some of the big football sized Rainbow triploids. With the the morning hovering around 18 degrees, needless to say it was cold. The fishing was fast an furious and we managed to land 40 fish in the matter of an hour. The limit is two so we put back any fish under 10 pounds and bagged any fish over. It was a great morning at Rufus and a fun time with great friends. Winter Walleye is in full swing here at Fishers Catch Outfitters. We have been getting them dug up from the deep water jigging and pulling work harnesses.
