January 23, 2021 Winter Sturgeon

The Fishers Catch Outfitters crew got back and focused on the winter sturgeon retention season. It has been an up and down season for the John Day pool and the bite has been slow and in many cases the only bite we get are sturgeon within the 43"-54" retention slot. Today was not any different than the past few days and with only a couple bites coming we managed to get a keeper and a river monster. January 22, 2021

The Fishers Catch Outfitters crew took a day off and went fishing. We headed up to Rufus Woods in search of some of the big football sized Rainbow triploids. With the the morning hovering around 18 degrees, needless to say it was cold. The fishing was fast an furious and we managed to land 40 fish in the matter of an hour. The limit is two so we put back any fish under 10 pounds and bagged any fish over. It was a great morning at Rufus and a fun time with great friends. January 20th Winter Walleye

Winter Walleye is in full swing here at Fishers Catch Outfitters. We have been getting them dug up from the deep water jigging and pulling work harnesses. It has been a good start to the winter walleye season. The group today managed to get some fish on the boat even with the clod windy weather. January 18th Retention Sturgeon

It was a day of looking for the Columbia River white sturgeon. It is retention season in the John Day pool and the quota has not been met yet. Todays clients have never caught a Columbia River  sturgeon and we were hoping to make that change today. We did not get the one we were looking for so they could take one home but we did land a couple with the biggest one measuring just over 9 feet.

January 17th Combo Sturgeon and Walleye

It was another great trip with returning clients Robbie and Courtney.. They brought along a couple friends that wanted to get their hands on a Columbia River white keeper sturgeon, but today just did not produce the critter we were looking for. After several hours of slow sturgeon fishing we set out on search of some great eating Columbia River winter walleye. With the walleye holding deep we decided to get after them with jigs and they ended up producing well. All in all a another successful and great day with these clients.

January 16th Walleye / Sturgeon

Today was a day for combo fishing. We started the day in search of a keeper Columbia river white sturgeon. With the cooler water temps the sturgeon seemed to bee a little slow on the bite. We managed to boat a little shaker and miss the hookset on a few others. With the slow sturgeon fishing it was time to go after some walleye. The walleye wanted to paly a little and we ended the day with a nice catch of eyes for the group. Fun day and great clients.

January 15th walleye

It was another good day on the Columbia river. The Fishers Catch Outfitters crew had to get out and get back on the walleye from their break in Texas. With upcoming walleye trips for clients it was time to get out on the Columbia and find them. It was a bit of a search, but we found them in the Boardman Oregon area jigging deep water with a slow presentation.
